I was tagged on twitter by Daddy Poppins and if you aren’t following his blog please check it out. I was very excited to answer these questions as my kids will be able to look back on it in the future and see what Christmas means to dad.
So here goes…
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
For me it’s Die Hard. I have been told lots that it isn’t a Christmas movie but I beg to differ. This year my son will get to see the Christmas magic this movie has to offer and dad can’t wait.
Now my kids all love the Home Alone movies and ao do I. More so by watching my kids laugh their asses off during the Kevin battling the robbers scenes.
Have you ever had a White Christmas?
Well I do live in Canada and always have a White Christmas. Some years more snow than others but snow is always here.
(Out my front window as I’m writing this)
I couldn’t imagine Christmas with out snow, it would be so weird.
Where do you usually spend your holiday?
Usually we spend it at home as traveling with kids is hard and very expensive. Nothing beats waking up in your own bed on Christmas morning as a child and running around the house.
What is your favourite Christmas song?
For me I have 2 favourite songs.
First is The Season’s Upon Us by The Dropkick Murphys
Second is Fairytale of New York by The Pogues
Every Christmas season these 2 songs are on replay and my kids and I sing away.
Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
No we don’t open any gifts on Christmas Eve but we do give the kids new pjs that night. It gives them something new and we love seeing their faces as they put on new jammies
Can you name all of Santa’s Reindeer?
Dasher, Donner, Comet, Cupid, Prancer, Vixen, Blitzen, Dancer and of course Rudolph.
Now to be honest I got 5 and asked my kids for help, haha
What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
Every year just before Christmas we go around the city and look at Christmas lights. We start on Candy Cane Lane and continue around our city. I have a few other places on my mind this year but time will tell if we get there or not. I love doing this and hearing the ohhhs and ahhhs as we walk and drive around. It really brings the Christmas excitement up in my kids and me as well.
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Our tree is fake as my wife doesn’t want a real one. The fake one has grown on me and my wife found a smell thing to go in the tree to give it the real feel.
What is your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?
For me its Nuts n Bolts. Every year my wife makes them for me and I devour the batch fast.
Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?
I love giving gifts and could care less if I get anything. I always tell my kids to make me something if they want to give dad a gift. Seeing my kids and my wife open their gifts up is all I need on Christmas morning.
What is the best Christmas present you have ever received?
Well I could go off on a toy I got as a kid or electronics as a teen but to be honest the beat gift I ever got was talking to my wife for the first time. We spoke to each other over Christmas and met in the new year and the rest is history so to speak. That was the greatest day in my life hands down.
What is your dream place to visit over the holiday season?
I don’t really have a dream place to visit as for me where ever my wife and kids are is where I want to be. So this question could be asked to them and I will follow them where ever they go.
Are you a pro present wrapper or fail miserably?
I am kind of in the middle on this one, not very good but not horribly bad either. My wife on the other hand is a pro at wrapping.
What made you realize the truth about Santa?
My mom told me the truth that he is magical and amazing. That’s all I need to know and pass on to my kids. If anyone tells you otherwise they are liars and need a swift kick in the back.
What makes the holidays special for you?
Spending time with my wife and kids. For a long time I hated Christmas but ever since having kids I love the season again. My kids make Christmas special.
